PROCEDURAL ABORTION
There are two common, well-tested and safe procedures for procedural abortion:
Vacuum Aspiration is the preferred method if you are less than 18 weeks from your last menstrual period. We provide you with pain medication and a mild sedative to assure you are as comfortable as possible. The procedure takes only a minute or two with little to no pain, but we’ll ask that you remain in the center for some time after for observation.
Dilation & Evacuation (D&E) is the method used for pregnancies 18 weeks or more. One day of dilation is required, but the actual procedure only takes around 15-30 minutes to complete.
Timing – Our Albuquerque NM clinic provides abortion care up to 24 weeks while our Carbondale IL clinic provides abortion care up to 18 weeks. Please call our clinic if you are above these number of weeks to learn your options.
MEDICATION ABORTION
Commonly referred to as “the abortion pill,” medication abortion can be administered up to 11 weeks or 70 days from the last menstrual cycle. It involves no surgery – you simply swallow a pill. This will result in a miscarriage and a “heavy period” will result.

FETAL ABNORMALITY
Learning your baby has a serious or fatal health problem is devastating. Our medical professionals offer the knowledge, compassion to help get through this sad and difficult time. Alamo staff has experience caring for patients who have a pregnancy diagnosed with anencephaly, Trisomy 13, 18, and 21, spina bifida, hydrocephalus, Klinefelter’s syndrome, dwarfism, oligohydramnios, Dandy Walker variant, and a range of other significant anomalies. If you are choosing to end your pregnancy based on information provided by your doctor or genetic counselor, please call us and ask for additional information.
TELEHEALTH AVAILABLE
Given the current legal environment, many of our patients will be travelling from out of state to come to our clinics. But we can begin advising you before you get here or prescribe a medical abortion via phone or video chat. Contact us to learn more. And also know if you do need to travel, funding is available to cover your costs!

IMPORTANT!
